console problem

I have a problem on hp9000 server console, it suddenly become very slow to respond, when I tried run the command: xhost + I get the message: unable to open DISPLAY. what can I do other than rebooting the system. the server is running oracle applications 11i

hi,

the problem is what, the output in screen is smoothly scrolling.

if the auto LF in the console is enabled(8th column in the bottom screen - see the * is showing in that column. ) it will happen like that.

to disable press 'F8' or 'ALT F8' depending on your console.

Hi Koni,

First of tell you are using serail console or graphical console. In graphical console(if you have VGA port in server) only you can expoort DISPLAY and xhost+ otherwise you can do a telnet from any of your client and then try
say
your pc's ip is 10.0.0.2
telnet to server
export DISPLAY=10.0.0.2:0
xhost +10.0.0.2
then
try with xwin applications like Sam ,sd ,xstm
in that Case you may require xwindows client should be there in your pc .
