Hi,

After fresh installation of hpux 11i on the root disk of a server which was previously 11.00 and mounting the non-vg00 filesystems back, how should one deal with the application software installations? For eg: /opt/java is from the previous 11.00 install and corresponds to the swinstall of a Java product. But, after 11i install and the mounting of the filesystem, it will not show the product in 11i swlist output and probably is not compatible either, but the software exists on /opt/java.
Do we need to do fresh install? or is a sw tweak available to list the product?

thanks
roger

hmm... I wouldnt go with the 11.0 JAVA installation.

Is the product working fine ? - Test the product completely to make sure it is compatible with 11i.

I would strongly suggest reinstalling JAVA.

Dont be worried about only swlist :-).

You could possibly try some dirty tricks with /var/adm/sw/products/INDEX file and /var/adm/sw/products directory and may be able to get the swlist working. But according to me, it has the potential to cause lot of problems.

You must reinstall java.

I don't know how you managed to get to 11i on a cold install and have the /opt/java available, but you did.

Perhaps you upgraded, this is not clear.

If the product is not on swlist, delete the directories, download java from http://www.hp.com/go/java

and reinstall.

Any other binaries of optional products left over from the 11.00, may require re-installation as well.

If oracle was on the box, relink it.

Get the June 2004 patch set and get that installed as well.

SEP
