HP Partsurfer ( http://partsurfer.hp.com ) shows that the A3591A is a 1000Base-T HSC Fiber-Channel network interface adapter. So that should work.

If you do a

# lanscan

Can you the hardware path and the instance number (lan1, lan2, etc.) for those cards? Once you find that out, you need to configure the cards with an IP address. This can be done via the ifconfig command.

If you want the information to remain after a reboot, you also need to make the configuration changes in the /etc/rc.config.d/netconf file.

If all else fails, go through SAM and see if you can configure the cards.

Hi all,

I have 2 D390 servers with HPUX 11.00 on and a A3591A fibre cards in each. Both servers are connected to a hub. How can I configure the cards so that both servers can see each other through the fibre interfaces?

Regards.

You do need to anything special. In order to set it in a such way that they see each other, you need to set host name resolution that way. What you use for host name resolution ??? /etc/hosts file?? DNS?? NIS??

If you use /etc/hosts file, do as follows.

hosta - ip_of_FC - xx.yy.zz.pp
hostb - ip_of_FC - dd.cc.ee.rr

Now on hosta, the entry for hostb (in /etc/hosts) will look as follows.

hostb dd.cc.ee.rr alias_for_hostb

On hostb, the entry for hosta will look as follows
hosta xx.yy.zz.pp alias_for_hosta

In case you use DNS, NIS, you will have to changes on DNS and NIS

Anil

Anil,

Many thanks for the reply.

I'm not quite sure what you mean in your previous message.

Both the cards are "CLAIMED" but I can't understand how to get server's to communicate with each other through the hub.

Is this method simular to using a fibre card as a network card?? If so how do I find out the address of the cards??

Regards.
I don't think that the A3591A cards can be used as networking interfaces. The A3591A/B card is a mass storage interface card that will connect fibre channel JBODs and arrays to your systems.

I am not aware of an FDDI card available for the D class system. Check http://techcom.cup.hp.com/ for more information.

Regards,

Wade Vail

HP Partsurfer is not correct this time. This card is a host bus adapter card that connects to mass storage devices. See: http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/fsearch/framedisplay?top=/hpux/onlinedocs/J6374-88014/J6374-90014_top.html&con=/hpux/onlinedocs/J6374-90014/00/00/7-con.html&toc=/hpux/onlinedocs/J6374-90014/00/00/7-toc.html&searchterms=a3591a&queryid=20041115-120642

This is described as a mass storage card. The OP will have nothing but frustration trying to connect this card to a lan.

BTW, I have sent mail to the Partsurfer folks to get the page updated.

Regards,

Wade
