system clock falling behind xntp server clock

On all of my systems I have ntp setup to all get their time from one server. This is working fine on every server except one. It is falling behind rather quickly. xntpd is running. The prefered server is selected. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check syslog for ntp messages that might indicate what the problem is:

grep -i ntp /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

Have you had a processor or system board replaced recently? I have seen it happen where the board was replaced and the jumpers on the board were not set for the correct processor speed...

ntpq -p

Both working and non-working systems.

You may get an error to act on.

Otherwise I'd say looking for a hardware fault is the way to go.

Consider using cstm mstm or the graphically X window xstm to run hardware diagnostics.

Has it started drifting all of a sudden or you have configured ntp and found it not matching or it is a new server ? If it is a new server then possiblly a hardware issue as we also had a similar problem in a new server last week and we were to replace the backplane board of our rp7410 server. Which model it is ?
