Hello,

In HPUX, when a client try to connect by telnet to a host, do the telnetd of the host a dns resolution of the client IP/name? If afirmative, how can I disable this?

It has to do host resolution. Else how it will estblish a connection???

Hi,

I Know the client has to do name resolution to connect to the host, but I want to know if the host need to resolve the IP/name of the client.

You cna't disable telnetd from doing a dns query, but can disable telnetd.

No the host doesn't need to resolv IP/name of the client that try to connect.

It does do a dns query and it can't be disabled.

Here is an example of where I telnet'd from 10.2.110.4 to 10.2.110.5, the following output is from 10.2.110.5's (named.run log):

Dec 23 07:23:11.403 resolver: createfetch: rndspt04.paychex.com AAAA
Dec 23 07:23:11.404 resolver: createfetch: rndspt04 AAAA
Dec 23 07:23:20.014 resolver: createfetch: 4.110.2.10.in-addr.arpa PTR

Hi,

If by example the server host we are trying to connect, does not have the client name in its /etc/host, and does not have dns resolution, does it mean I cannot be able to connect to this host?
