      <title>Kernel changes using SAM</title>

      <description>Running 11i, and trying to change the flocks parameter.&lt;BR /&gt; I get the following error&lt;BR /&gt;Cannot build a kernel using /usr/sbin/config.  The standard output of      &lt;BR /&gt;     the command is shown below:                                                &lt;BR /&gt; &lt;BR /&gt;    Stop.                                                                     &lt;BR /&gt;    config: make did an exit(1)                                               &lt;BR /&gt;                                                                            &lt;BR /&gt;    The command exitted with exitcode -71.  &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Any ideas/comments on what is going wrong?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Ian Warner</description>

      <description>Lets eliminate the kernel as a problem.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Try doing the kernel command line.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;#cd /stand&lt;BR /&gt;#cp vmunix vmunix.old&lt;BR /&gt;#cp system system.old&lt;BR /&gt;#cd build&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;#this is the changed line.&lt;BR /&gt;#/usr/lbin/sysadm/system_prep -s system&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Edit system file and make changes here as per ur require ment. Imeand addition/Deletion of devices. Then&lt;BR /&gt;#mk_kernel -s system&lt;BR /&gt;For more information see the man page of mk_kernel&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Now one new kernel will be created in /stand/build directory. Copy this to original location&lt;BR /&gt;#cd /stand/build&lt;BR /&gt;#cp vmunix_test /stand/vmunix&lt;BR /&gt;#cp system /stand&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I think you will still get the error, but now you will know where to look.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;SEP</description>

      <description>What happens if you try and rebuild the kernel yourself, without using SAM.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;cd /stand/build&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;/usr/sbin/config -c conf.SAM.c -l \ config.SAM.mk /stand/build/system.SAM &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;It may be that SAM is losing some interesting output?&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>You may need PHKL_29899&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;if /usr/conf/master.d/stape (an ascii) file contains st_ats_safe instead of st_san_safe. You can grep it to check.</description>

      <description>All the info seemed to point to bad/missing patches. The system is now patched up to the eyeballs, HP patch assesment says all patches are installed and I get exactly the same error!!&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;The bad patches mentioned are not on the system (as far as I can tell), so.... any ideas?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Ian Warner</description>

      <description>Just to be clear, if you try and rebuild the kernel using SAM you get the problem, but when you installed patches (specifically PHKL types) that rebuild the kernel, you didn't get a error?</description>
