The way to handle such things is to send escape codes to the printer.

Those vary from printer to printer and are found in the documentation or the manufacturers website.

For exact help you'll need to tell us the make and model of the printer.

I was wondering what happened with the possible spam relay problem you posted a few weeks back?

Happy New Year.

SEP

Remote printers for a SysV style spooling system have no printer scripts with options to select features such as trays and landscape printing. Even if the Xerox printer was locally connected to the HP-UX machine, unless it emulates an HP printer, you would have to get a technical reference manual for the pritner to discover the appropriate codes needed to control the printer, then modify the printer script.

With your current situation, you'll have to create a wrapper script, that is, a script that you use as a substitute for lp. You might call it lpxerox or something similar. The script would have options for tray number, duplex, other options, then insert the appropriate codes just prior to the file to be printed. You'll still need the Xerox tech ref manual.
