if the processes do not respond to "kill -9" then you have no choice, you have to reboot to kill them.

I am running a make_net_recovery half way and I decided to abort. However, I have the following process that cannot be killed. I try unmount the NFS but it keep saying it is busy.

root 1817 1 0 11:44:41 ? 0:00 /opt/ignite/data/scripts/make_sys_image /opt/ignite/data/scr
root 1814 1 0 11:44:41 ? 0:00 /opt/ignite/lbin/list_expander -f /var/tmp/archAAAa01369

How could I kill this two process without a restart.
Reboot may be the only way to get rid of the process.
Any process hung during an I/O may not respond for a kill -9
To quote kill man page
"If a process hangs during some operation (such as I/O) so that it is never scheduled, it cannot die until it is allowed to run. Thus, such a process may never go away after the kill"

Karthik
