Hi,
when booting my N Class server I get the following messages when looking at the chassis error log in xstm - was wondering if anyone has seen this before - my 4 CPU system is running fine and when I run PR at the BCH prompt it shows no errors.I am running version
B.11.00.27.18 of OnlineDiag......
Timestamp : 02/04/2005 09:06:25
A Processor Field Replaceable Unit (FRU) has failed.

Recommended Action:

From the Boot Console Handler Main Menu, execute the INfo (in) command.
This brings up the Info Menu. Now execute the PRocessor (pr) command. This
will report what processor is not functioning.
Regards,
Karen.

Looks like there are 2 possibilities.

a) You have a faulty FRU as the diagnostics are telling you, but it is an intermittant fault, so you aren't seeing any further symptoms (yet).

b) The online diagnostics are incorrect.

If (a) then I would guess the problem is only going to get worse over time, thus it should be obvious if (a) is true. You should consider getting a field engineer in, the FRU may simply need reseating, or may need to be swapped out.

If (b), the less likely scenario, then you probably need to see if there are any patches for the online diagnostics for your server. Do you have the latest version of the online diagnostics for your server?

I went down the patches road yesterday following a thread from another forum posting.I downloaded a patch bundle only for swinstall to tell me they were already installed! Guess I will just wait and see what happens.I have noticed that since upgrading Onlinediag yesterday the errors only occur at boot time whereas before they were being reported every few minutes. The server has been running fine for 9 months or so - I had a problem with it 2freezing" regularly but that turned out to be a flaky root disk which I have replaced.
Thanks for your input Stephen.

Karen.

Robert-Jan/Stephen,
apologies for late reply - training this am. Yesterday I installed patch phss_31214 (latest patch superceding 30273). Unfortunately I still get the errors in the chassis errorlog. However I have inadvertently fixed another thread I posted a few weeks back - namely my PDT has now increased to 256!.After checking the PDC firmware revs of my other 10 N class m/c's I have discovered a pattern.Errors only occur at boot time - checked date of /var/stm/logs/os/ccerrlog compared to m/c's uptime - so I have these errors reported on m/c's that have been running fine for years!
Robert-Jan:- are you in fact suggesting I install the 11.11 patch (30274) on my 11.0 m/c's?
Regards and thanks for your responses.
John.
