All, im trying to create a depot. Ive ceated the psf, and ran the swpackage and it placed it all in /var/spool/sw. I thought I was done because I ran swinstall and pointed it to /var/spool/sw and it saw Proftpd. But it wasnt in depot format, just a DIR format. I have attempted to run swcopy but all I have got it to do for me is place all this stuff in another dir in /tmp.

# more proftpd.psf
#&##
#&## PSF generated by SPB 2/9/05 1:57 PM
#&##
# USIopenssh Product Specification File
#
# Built with the following command
# swpackage -v -s openssh.psf @ /depot/SECURITY-1100
#
product
tag Proftpd.depot
title "USi Proftpd for HP-UX 11.00"
revision 1.2.9
os_name HP-UX
is_locatable false
fileset
tag Proftpd
directory /opt/USIfreeware/proftpd = /opt/USIfreeware/proftpd
file *
end #&## fileset Proftpd
end #&## product Proftpd.depot
bsdos{root}:/tmp
You have copied your package to a local depot, but the problem is likely that you have not registered the depot. (I don't 'think' it matters that you called it /var/spool/sw...)

swreg -l depot /var/spool/sw

This should allow you to connect to the remote machine and install.

John

BTW, depot not being in tar format is not really a
showstopper. I have created and installed from
depots in directory format for nearly a decade.
There should be no problem with the depot as long
as it's created by "swpackage" command.

- Biswajit
