My first update this week went fine on one of my dev boxes. All apps still work. I am attempting another one and I keep getting a space issue message:

ERROR: To perform this OS update, it is required that the /opt partition
have at least 1025000 KB of free space and it currently has 419005 KB
of free space
ERROR: To perform this OS update, it is required that the /stand partition
have at least 80000 KB of total space and it currently has 78576 KB
of total space
NOTE: These problems must be corrected before attempting another update

Is there a parm I can use (-x) to ignore this message. Here is my bdf info.

/dev/vg00/lvol3 122880 29926 87197 26% /
/dev/vg00/lvol1 78576 28456 42256 40% /stand
/dev/vg00/lvol8 1568768 682760 831087 45% /var
/dev/vg00/lvol7 1568768 541974 962633 36% /usr
/dev/vg00/lvol6 921600 251993 628436 29% /tmp
/dev/vg00/lvol5 1568768 1122190 419005 73% /opt
Your /stand and /opt are too small - you will need to change them first - easiest way is with an ignite tape recovery - load the tape - then modify the partitions....

Rgds...Geoff

Ideas:

1) Cold install, more reliable.
2) Remove optional software and try the update again. You'll have to increase /opt but can wait.
3) make_tape_recvoery boot restore off of it, intervening to increase filesystem sizes.

With option 3, I'd increase /stand and /opt. Maybe even /var

If you choose an option and want details let me know.

SEP

Yes I am aware of all these options. Done it many times.

But I find it hard to believe that I need that much free in /opt.

I did delete .prev in .stand. that looks ok now.
but /opt...seems like a bug.

Yes Robert, they want at east 800 MB.

The update probably updates optional (/opt) software with newer, fatter, larger versions.

You are going to have to increase /opt eventually. The question is when.

That's why my option plan works. Because it lets you decide when to do it.

I suppose if there is lots of stuff on /opt that you never needed you can avoid increasing the /opt filesystem alltogether.

A big user of /opt is the Ximian GNOME X Windows. Mozilla and Netscape also install into that filesystem.

SEP

Robert - I don't think a 2GB /opt will hurt You very much, but You could also simply exclude filesets from the installation.
