Hi,

I have an HP machine which we are not using. It has OS 11.11.
Since i am new to HP, i want to try re-installing the OS on this machine. My comapny has allowed me to do so, provided i give them a machine thats well set up. Once i have reinstalled the OS they will start using this machine as a development machine.

My questions is how to reinstall the OS if i have all the OS cds?
I need the machine to have the same ip address and all other configurations as it is having now, so what are the files i need to keep a copy of?
Also What all info will the installation process ask me for that i need to keep ready at hand.

all inputs appreciated.
For network configurations, you need following
files:

1) /etc/rc.config.d/netconf (for IP address / router
address).

2) /etc/resolv.conf (for name server address)

I can only think of these two files. See if someone
suggests something I can't recall right now.

The installation process will ask you IP address and
router info only. Unless you are sure what you are
doing, take the default values for filesystem sizes
and everything else.

- Biswajit
Nothing else. These parameters
should be in the files I (and others) mentioned in last
few posts. Just write down these values on a piece of
paper and enter when the installation process asks
you.

- Biswajit
Put in the Os install CD, and do shutdown -ry 0

When system is booting interrupt the boot process. On PDC menu, do se ipl. It should show the cdrom/dvd rom device.

Then do bo p1 (assuming that p1 is boot device-cdrom/dvd)

From then on it is self explainatory.

Anil

Make sure you have all the codewords for licensed software.
there is a .codeword hidden file in /var/adm/sw/.codewords

you can make an ignite image of the machine and save it to a remote, trusted disk if you have it

make_sys_image is the command (do a man on it)

I will create another post for that.

Thank you all...
