Load average tells you how many processes are waiting in queue for CPU.

In most cases, high proc load (>4) means performance problems. You should investigate that dipper with all kinds of collectors that were adviced in the prevous post, before you spend money on ram or cpu.

Regards,
Alex

hi!
i´m running some rp3440 with 2 cpu@1000mhz and 2gb ram. we have problems with the response time from our application (idle times where you can´t even move a window for a few seconds). wwe are using a graphon goglobal xserver which usually runs not that bad. so, what i have seen is a relatively high load average about 3-6.
my question: is it possible to solve the problem with more ram? what does the load average say in general?

thanks for some answers, gust

On its own, load average says very little.

The load factors you report do not mean you have a problem.

The fact that you have symptoms means you may need to look at performance.

Attaching some data collection scripts and putting in a link on performance. I know the author, great doc.

http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/search.do?searchString=UPERFKBAN00000726&docType=Security&docType=Patch&docType=EngineerNotes&docType=BugReports&docType=Hardware&docType=ReferenceMaterials&docType=ThirdParty&searchCrit=allwords&search.x=28&admit=-682735245+1110394937782+28353475&category=c0&mode=id&search.y=8

SEP
