Another approach is to NFS mount the destination filesystem onto the production server (or vice versa). Then do:

find

Cpio from old lvol to new lvol (find -depth | cpio - pdmax)
Note: the -depth will update the timestamps on the target subdirectories
* Unmount the file system

NOTE: Please note that 'find | cpio' won't copy zero-byte files, since
there is no data to bring across. Instead, use the 'touch (filename)' command
to replicate these files.

Hello All experts,

I have two servers (HP 9000). Both loaded with HP-UX11. One is production and other is backup of that. I want to setup backup identical to production. I took backup of data of productio on tapes. But while restoring I come across many errors. So I copied data onto a hard disk with all Logical volumes intact with data. Now I need to attach that hard disk on my backup server and do the restore onto it. For that do I have to add that hard disk into LVM tree of my backup server? Can you guide me through a step wise procedure to accomplish this? What could be the better way to do restore from an external hdd to HP-UX server? Do I have to do LVM import/export commands?

Thanks to all of you in advance.

- sachin

If its not too much data, I'd do it through the network card.

scp -rp * backup_server_hostname://data_directory

Only factor to be concerned with is making sure any databases involved are shut down during the copy.

It would be helpful to know what errors you encountered in your first methodology.

SEP
