Jeff,

If this is a one time installation, i.e., you do not have a boat load of printers that you want to add from the command line or from within a script, try using hppi utility which is a shell commands' wrapper for printer related commands.

Once in there, select
1) Spooler Administration
then select
1) Add printer to local spooler
and provide the ip address of the printer. since you do not seem to have the proper model script, it will come back to tell you printer is not a supported. At this point it will let you select a printer model script from the already available ones. If you do not have a very similar device script, select the one which says "Generic Laser Printer" (or something similar to that, knowing that all you will not be able to use the extended functionality of the printer, like fancy fonts etc.

If by any chance you do not have any model scripts listed, i.e., accidental deletion of the scripts, you can goto

http://www.hp.com/pond/modelscripts/index2.html

and selectively download the necessary model scripts from this page. Also, it may be a good idea to check this page for newly released printer model scripts for hpux. Needless to say, the page only contains model scripts for printers made by HP.

Hope this helps
