Installing from ignite server HP-UX 11.11

is vxvm rootablity supported from installing from an ignite server?

Has anyone done it successfully?

When installing from a K ( ignite server )
to a D ( ignite client )

Get this error:

vxvm_root: Warning: vxio driver not loaded
panic: all VFS_MOUNTROOTs failed: NEED DRIVERS ?????

But when in install LVM everything installs without any trouble.

Any ideas?

Have done this sucessfully on RP8420s and RP3440s, with Ignite version 5.4. What version are you using.

Are you installing from an image taken off a server, or from depots?

from this i dont see VxVM or should this be in the base OS?

Philip,

Good question. I would have thought that it was part of the enterprise OE, but then the issues you are having suggest that it may be missing.

Maybe try swlist at a lower level, say

swlist -l fileset -d @ /

Should be more detailed.

When ignite asks to copy the core os cd i suppose that VxVM does not get copied over.

I am coping VxVM to my ignite server and will try the install again.

I have no idea why VxVM would be missing.....

I would assume the same, that VxVM would be copied as part of the core OS. Worth trying to copy that depot over and going from there. Good Luck, I'm calling it a night!

I'm currently experiencing the same problem, where I'm trying to install HP/UX 11i v1(using the VxVM layout) from an ignite depot server. I also noticed that the Veritas package (Base-VXVM B.03.50.5) wasn't in my depot, after I copied the Base O/S cd using the ignite GUI. I have since added the Base-VXVM product to my depot. What do I need to now, to make sure the VxVM product installs. Do I need to add a sw_sel statement in one of my configuation files?

I built my ignite server off the DVD release of 11.11. For both FOE (Foundation) and EOE (Enterprise) releases - I always get VxVM 3.5:

For CD-ROM Releases, I think you will need to manually get the CD3/CD4 depots into your Ignite server.

I manually added the Base-VXVM product to my ignite depot, but I'm still receiving the same error once the target server attempts to boot from it's root disk. I would think that during the configuration screen, if you select Veritas VXVM as the layout, it would automatically select the BASE-VXVM product to be installed. It appears that isn't happening. Need Help!

I have corrected my problem. It appears that when you update the ignite depot with software, you have to execute the command "make_config -r [release_number]" again to rebuild new default software config files.
