Sleeping?

I have an HP9000 E25 that I use for a test box here at work. I havent used it for a couple of weeks. I need to use it today and I cant get it out of "sleep mode or suspend"? I am not sure what the correct terminology would be. I have tried a bunch of different key strokes and have waited for about a half hour now. I dont want to just shut it off and restart it. Am I missing something here? Is there anything that I can do to move on here?

Is the monitor a graphical monitor in sleep mode?
Try to telnet in and have a look around.

Is your problem with the console? The setup of the console may have been changed, which would prevent anything from being display. Is the machine hooked up to your network ? Can you telnet, ping , etc.. ?

If it's the console, you may want to restart the Xserver if it's hung.
Your real line of investigation is via telnet/rlogin.. that's once the mouse works and monitor is powered on etc..

Hi Ted,

you can reset the console monitor by doing the following steps:

1) turn the monitor off
2) press the key d and keep it pressed while you turn it back on
3) once it is on release the letter d and you should be fine

This of course works only if you just have trouble on the console itself. As mentioned above try to telnet in first and see if the box seems to function otherwise.

The only thing that should go into a 'sleep' mode on these machines is the console. The machine itself, ie. disk drives, CPUs, etc., don't do anything like that. If you can't get the console to wake up, try powering it off and back on. You should at least get a blinking cursor in the top left corner of the screen. What happens if you press -B?

Is this machine networked? Can you ping it or telnet to it?

If it doesn't respond to anything, you may have to do a hard boot.

I assume that you try to get access to the console.

Try to reset the console:

1) Press the "D" key and keep it pressed.
2) Power off the monitor
3) Power on the monitor
4) Wait 10 seconds
5) Release the "D" key

This resets the console. You might need to reapply the customized terminal settings (e.g. keyboard language etc.) in the terminal menu after this procedure.

Just thought of something else. If this is an HP 700/9X console, then make sure that the console is in "Remote Mode", which I believe is the F4 key. If it is not in that mode, then nothing will work.

I think it is toast! I held the d key down, shut off, turn on, and now I have a thin green line going horizontal across the center of the screen. I will go swap it out and see if it works on another system. If not, this is the 2nd console to burn out in less than a year. Thanks all, once again, for your help.
