topic Tape error in Operating System - HP-UX

Tape error

Hi all,
i am getting following error while checking backup..
to check for backup i have to remove it n again put the same tape, then only it is reding.

hp:/arch_crr/crr_one/arch>tar -tvf /dev/rmt/0mn
Tar: blocksize = 0; broken pipe?
-------------------------------------

$ tar -tvf /dev/rmt/0mn
Tar: tape read error

If you are using a non-rewindable device to make the backup, you'd have to rewind it (mt -f /dev/rmt/0m rew) before you can read the backup.

Was the backup taken with tar?
Why are you using the no-revind device?
If it was a Ignite (make_tape_recovery) you would havt to:
mt -t /dev/rmt/0mn fsf 1
tar -tvf /dev/rmt/0m

1. Clean the tape device first.
2. Rewind the tape: mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn rew
If the trouble still persit--->the tape had error during bakup or broken.
You can only view the content with tar command if you backup with tar command.
