I have a partitioned server, cell0 and cell1.
Cell1 boots fine. Cell0 hangs during boot up.
It initializes the boot path then hangs after the following
Boot Path Initialized.

HARD Booted.

ISL Revision A.00.43 Apr 12, 2000

ISL booting hpux

Boot
: disk(0/0/0/3/0.5.0.0.0.0.0;0)/stand/vmunix
10428416 + 1880064 + 7451544 start 0x1f5f68

This partition was previously booted but went down and now won't come back up.

A partatus looks okay and I have check the logs and not seen any messages.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would start by checking the I/O as this looks like it is hanging trying to probe hardware paths.
Hi Nancy,

Melwyn is correct. You need to check the I/O. Is this an Itanium system? If so, there were many problems encountered in MP and similar booting issues were experienced.

Check if the MP for the cell is available. Check the System Event log or Forward progress log to know the actual reason of this boot failure.

If this is an rp7420/rx7620 system then Master MP is MP1. If it is an rp8420/rx8620 system then Master MP is MP0.

The FPL should give you the reason of this failure, for sure.

With regards,
Mohan.

Mohan,
Where do I find the FLP. This is an rp7410. Sorry for my ignorance but I have not worked that much with partitioned systems and this is the first problem where I am completly lost. I can see both cells and have done a toc and looked at logs and checked chassis code numbers but have not found anything yet.
Nancy

Hi Nancy,

To view the FPL(Forward Progress Log),

1) Go to console or LAN Console
2) Press <CTRL> B
3) Type SL
4) choose "Forward Progress Log", FPL
5) Select view mode as text by typing "t" and press <ENTER>
6) Now You should be able to see the logs, latest first. Keep going down until the time of this problem and observe the messages.
Hi Nancy,

Look at the vfp (Virtual Front Panel)and observe what is the message for this partition there.

Was there any changes made in the system? Why did the system go down? was that investigated?

You can boot to EFI and check the errdump output.
