      <description>nis server cannot start either during boot or using /sbin/init.d/nis.server start&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Below are the error messages:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;starting up the portmapper&lt;BR /&gt;portmap already started, using pid: 522&lt;BR /&gt;domainname cadcam&lt;BR /&gt;starting up the Network Information Service&lt;BR /&gt;WARNING:  /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypserv not started:  either -  the directory /var/yp/cadcam does not exist or -  some or all of the cadcam NIS domain'smaps are missing.&lt;BR /&gt;To initialize upm as a NIS server, see ypinit(1M).&lt;BR /&gt;WARNING:  /usr/sbin/ypxfrd not started:  either the directory /var/yp/cadcam does not exist or some or all of the cadcam NIS domain's maps are missing.&lt;BR /&gt;To initialize upm as a NIS server, see ypinit(1M).&lt;BR /&gt; WARNING:  /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/rpc.yppasswdd not started:  refer to the&lt;BR /&gt;           reasons listed in the WARNING above.&lt;BR /&gt; WARNING:  /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/rpc.ypupdated not started:  refer to the&lt;BR /&gt;           reasons listed in the WARNING above.&lt;BR /&gt; starting up the keyserv daemon&lt;BR /&gt; keyserv already started, using pid: 553&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Thanks&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>

      <description>Took me 7 hours of trying with a long nap to post this:&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;WARNING: /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypserv not started: either - the directory /var/yp/cadcam does not exist or - some or all of the cadcam NIS domain'smaps are missing.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;You are missing diretories or files.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If they were manually deleted, you will have to restore them.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;bdf /var&lt;BR /&gt;bdf /usr&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;make sure they are not mounted on root /&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If they are you may need to reboot your system and run fsck on the above filesystems in single user mode.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;SEP&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
