Hi Guys,

Something seems to have happened to my server hardrives.. I could not access it suddenly.. when i tried to see the status using "ioscan -fnCdisk" .. nothing comes out of it i.e. just idling... but when i reboot, i can see the drives again.. after awhile the drives disappears again. What could have caused this?

Best regards
Henry

I am suspecting it may be a connection issue .

Can you check the disk SCSI controller is at claimed state in #ioscan -fn ==>if the state is unclaimed or No_HW such things will happen

Are you finding any error at #dmesg &
any disk EMS critical event at
# /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log

if u find the error please post the same

Seems to be /dev/dsk/c3t9d0 device is having a problem .
In the syslog SCSI: First party detected bus hang -- lbolt: 106022734 ==>Error generated .

The above error may appear due to a SCSI ID
(7) clashing . Example two scsi adaptor in one scsi bus with the same SCSI ID .. & also by improper SCSI termination .

Can you post the #ioscan -fn ==> output that would be helpful
Hi,

The disk at /dev/dsk/c3t9d0 is probably loading the whole SCSI bus, due to which the SCSI bus stops responding.

You may want to call HP representative to have a look at this problem. Hopefully you have the backups handy!

~Suraj

Thanks for the advise guys, anyway here is the "ioscan -fn" log. The problem seems to be intermitten, all I have to do is to reboot the system and everything will be back to normal, but after awhile, the same hang will come back again...

Hope there is something I can do..

Hi,

Is it an external disk??? if yes, check and ensure proper aonnection and termination.

also, try running diskinfo -v /dev/rdsk/c#t#d# on the suspected disk.

you ca try dd ing te disk to /dev/null to detect disk issue.

thanks

This is rather typical of a failing disk. The very first thing you should do is make sure you have a good backup. It's also wish to check connections and you could even have missing or bad termination but much more likely is a disk that will soon fail completely.

thanks folks,

I have ran diskinfo, didn't show any problem, however when i did "dd" one of the disk give i/o error while the other 2 disks take forever to return a value i.e. nothing after hours.. is there anyway to know which of them is faulty.. or do I have to change all of them?

Best regards
Henry

Hi Henry,

I see you opened this thread since a month.
By now it is clear your system has hardware problems. I suggest you to open an HW call by HP and they will help you to know if one or more disks have to be replaced.

Anyway it sounds like a problem on SCSI bus or controller connection which produces errors on more disks randomly connected to it.

Open an HW call by HP and you should quickly solve these problems.

Best regards,
Fabio
