      <description>vdump: unable to write to device ; [5] I/O error &lt;BR /&gt;vdump: do you want to retry?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;we take '0 level' backup daily on the media (DLT 40/80) with rotation schedule of weekly once we have been experieced on these error on new and old media. &lt;BR /&gt;can any body can help me, what are the causes behind this ??&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;thanks in advance</description>

      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;It is an error by the drive while writing to media. As you said you have allready tried replacing media with new one , it seems to a drive issue. Try cleaning with cleaning cartridge &amp;amp; retry.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Otherwise try with other drive if available.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;HTH,&lt;BR /&gt;Devender</description>

      <description>Venkat,&lt;BR /&gt;start giving a look to the error log file with the following command:&lt;BR /&gt;uerf -f /usr/adm/binary.errlog&lt;BR /&gt;or uerf -f /usr/var/adm/binary.errlog&lt;BR /&gt;and search for hardware problems.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;And give a look also if you have PATCH ID: OSF425-952 on your server.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Regards,&lt;BR /&gt;Alessandro</description>

      <description>thanks all for solutions,&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;we have been facing this problem since 6 months, so far The actions we have taken are&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;1. cleaned the drives with cleaning dlt.&lt;BR /&gt;2. changed the old media&lt;BR /&gt;3. changed the drives which are suspected&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;we also facing the same problem  with legato backup&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;other info:&lt;BR /&gt;os : tru64 5.1A Patch PK6&lt;BR /&gt;server : compaq alpha server DS20&lt;BR /&gt;Tape Library : TL895&lt;BR /&gt;Legato networker V6.0.1&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;and am also sending the out put uerf -f&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
