    <description>creating/initializing new filesystems require use of raw device files, i.e. rlvol not lvol.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;so your command should look like this :&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;newfs -F vxfs /dev/vg03/rlvol1&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;and if you are planning to store files of sizes larger than 2GB, specifying "-o largefiles" option will also be necessary&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Hope this helps</description>

      <title>Problem about file system creatation</title>

      <description>I created the vg03, /dev/vg03/lvol1 successfully.&lt;BR /&gt;Then I create the file system&lt;BR /&gt;newfd -F vxfs /dev/vg03/lv0l1&lt;BR /&gt;I got the error message&lt;BR /&gt;newfs (vxfs): /dev/vg03/lvol1 is not a character decice&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;What's the problem right now?&lt;BR /&gt;Thanks</description>

      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;  To create the file system on any logical volume we have to use the raw device file for that logical volume so in place of using /dev/vg03/lvol1 you should use newfs -F vxfs /dev/vg03/rlvol1 . &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Regards.&lt;BR /&gt;Manoj</description>
