IGNITE OOPS

I was playing with ignite (GUI) and ignited a remote server. it worked well. I seen an option to reboot the server. so I tryed it. it rebooted the server but now the server is in a loop. when it boots it says cant find the Ignite server. eventualy it takes me to the ignite-ux menu (on the local machine). but I cant start a recovery shell; tryes to reach the Ignite server. HELP!

hi matthew,
it's bit tricky, this problem.
i can't give you the exact syntax but as i remember the problem is, that the install kernel has already been copied to /stand/vmunix
so you need to interrupt booting, starting single_user-mode and copy the old kernel (usually vmunix.prev) back (it has to be saved by ignite itself)
sorry, that i cannot get you more exact information, but my system is down at the moment and because of this i'm not able to look it up (severe problems with NIS and so on at my side)

Hi,
I have done the same mistake for some years ago. Ignite install a boot program on the disk which try to connect to the Ignite server after rebooting. You must interrupt the boot process, get the ISL prompt and then type hpux (if I not remember wrong).

I think the install kernel might be recorded in the LIF:AUTO file, but I don't know it first hand. But maybe I'll test that ;)
