Console hanging

Hi,
I have HP-UX 10.2 and 11.0 in a D-390 server. whenever i switched between OS's it boot's well
but after booting the console just hangs, it wouldn't taking in any key from keyboard. i can't even ping from other system in to it.
any solutions.....

So, I understand that is not your console that hangs, but your system, correct?
If so, where does it hang?
does it happen with the two OSs?

Hi
If it hanging from both OS and you cannot ping the machine then it is failing to boot correctly and is not a console problem.

If you have ignite then rebuild the machine from the last good ignite tape.

or reinstall one version of your OS.

Hi,
I agree with Paula, if you also cannot ping, then its something else which leads me to this question: How can you affirmate it boots well?
Because of the displaying on the console?
If such is the case then you should look at fs corruption, /etc/inittab corrupted (yes a bad stanza in this file can give such results...)etc...

Following Victor's idea, can you tell us what's the output of the console?
maybe you should try to boot in single user mode, and check for errors on syslog, rc.log, ...

Whenever i switched between OS's(10.2 & 11.0) system do check all, including network. and gives 'login' prompt, without any errors. when i keyed in userid it wouldn't display and wouldn't ask for password. as well ping and telnet wouldn't work to login from another system.

So looks to me like the is big chances of having something wrong /etc/inittab,
reboot the machine in single user and see what happens (does the console work now? can you ping the machine?)
Look at syslog.log
if it works than look for the lines when the system goes multi user.

If its before tell us what you see...

Hi,
No changes in the 'inittab' file. after a hardboot it is working , let's watch it.

To asign points you must login to the ITRC and then an ASSIGN POINTS buttom will be displayed.

Hi,
after rebooting it worked for few hours and once again the system is hanging.not able to login to the system to check the log file.
any solution pls....

Hi,
Can you still ping the box?
I suppose you will have to start all again, but this time try to monitor the box by having 4 or 5 connections for root and in one use top to monitor unless you have glance
If you can still ping but no more telnet you might have one or more process that have hacked your machine (100%cpu usage...) with a load that exceeds 20..., a loop? lp not responding?...

look at OLDsyslog.log

check since your machines doesnt start to boot properly if you had a crash followed by a bad reboot

I have a HP-UX 11i on Visualize 5000 , after sometime the system just hangs. I can ping the system but If I telnet the system I can see the blinking cursor but nothing else. This happens even after hardboot , It works for few minutes then the applications starts hanging.
