remshd:incorrect login (another one)

I am recieving this error when attempting a rcp from one 10.20 box to another 10.20 box (even though I can rcp to other machines).
I've tried all the fixes found at the knowledge base.
I can rlogin, remsh, etc. between these two particular hosts, I just cannot rcp?
I've checked: .rhosts,hosts.equiv, inetd.sec, duplicate user ID's, .rhosts permissions, etc.

running out of troubleshooting spots, any help would be appreciated.

Check /etc/securetty if user is root otherwise $HOME/.rhosts

If you are using dns maybe dns is returning either a fully qualified hostname(domain name) and you are using only the hostname. Try putting all variations of the host name in .rhosts for the userid you are using on both systems to they match (including case). Do a nslookup on each host of your hostname as well. Maybe on different networks dns is returning different names.

Example
.rhosts
systemA user
systemA.DomainName.com userid
systemA.domainname.com userid

Let us know if you get it figured out!

You were right Peggy, there was some minor differences within dns which seemed to be causing the problems...

Glad to hear that worked for you. And thanks for the points. Should help someone else if they run into the same problem. Heck, it'll help me when I forget that rcp gives that strange error when the names don't match.
