The 11.0 to 11i upgrade has been done successfully many times. You are right that you have to do some prep work on file system sizes, but that's about it. Patches can be taken care of after the upgrade process with the latest patch bundles. Applications will need to be upgraded then, as well, but, with 11i and its' operating environments, you may well have Mirror/UX bundled in, leaving you with only the compilers and SNAplus to upgrade.

Pete

codeword question

I have a client that has asked that I help upgrade their servers, N and L Class machines, from 11.0 to 11. They have a few codeworded applications such as Mirror/UX, some compilers, and SNAplus.

Based upon previous posts, I see that the upgrade process can be pretty ugly whether that be media failures, insuring that the server has the latest available 11.0 patches, that the filesystems are sized appropriately, and so forth. We haven't worked out if they want to attempt an upgrade or cold install.

That said, what happens to applications such as SNAplus when the O/S is upgraded? Does it still work? I know for a cold install, I would need codewords to install the applications, but I'm not sure what happens if a server is upgraded and the codewords and application (from the earlier release) are already on the machine.

Your comments and advice are appreciated. Thanks.

I would expect that you need to also install/upgrade the 11i versions of Mirror/UX and others, consiquentialy requiring codewords which should come with their 11i distribution on the application CDs.

The upgrading from 11.0 to 11i book may lead you to the details.

Sorry this is not a definate answer but I bet the definate will lead you in the same direction.

Hi Vincent ,

For Mirror/UX and other Applications for 11i you have to take separate Codewords , that comes and matches with the 11i CD.

Refer the Chapter-7 , "Update to 11i" in "Recovery Handbook " , that is having good explanation & good documentation.

Cheers ,
Raj.

You will need to obtain new keywords and have them ready for the upgrade.

You may/should be prompted for them in the upgrade, if not, after first boot you can input them with swinstall or just create a new .codewords file and copy it on in.

SEP
