I am trying to attach a HP 4c scanner to my C240 workstation running 11. No problems with the physical conections but when i do an ioscan, i get an unclaimed, unknown device (C2520). Does anybody know if I have to install a kernel driver and how do I create the required device files.

If you get "unclaimed, unknown device" from ioscan, you do not have the required driver loaded into the kernel. Find out what you need from either the product doc's or HP's web site. Add into the kernel (SAM is easiest) and reboot. The device file(s) will be created automatically at boot.
i doubt there are any drivers direclty from HP for scanners under HP-UX. if you can find the command sequences equired to "drive" the scanner, you can either go and write a kernel driver yourself using information from devresource.hp.com, or you might be able to do something with the scsi pass-through driver.

if there is a linux driver for the 4c scanner, you might be able to leverage that knowledge
