Hi.

I have a customer with the above error on their L3000 server running HPUX 11.00. This is reported on the console & in syslog.log regularly. I have read the article on why this occurs & have enabled verbose logging (inetd -l) in syslog.log. Subsequently, I received:

telnet/tcp: Connection from unknown (nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn).

This brought up at least 4 ip addresses including the following devices: 2 x Win NT PCs, 1 Cisco switch & a laptop. None of these should be regularly opening telnet sessions to the server. Is there anything else I can check?

Worth checking that you don't have a duplicate IP address in your network.

This is almost always a virus on the windows systems , Switch is a redherring, Check that the PC's are upto date and have a virus scan done, HP-UX does not get windows viruses

The customer has verified that all AV software is up-to-date & they have no viruses on their network. We are currently monitoring their network to get to the bottom of this.

Customer has network issues that are probably causing this. They are planning changes to their network. As a result, I will close this thread.
