I have just upgraded a D class server, after running a full backup I started the rebuild. All worked fine, last step I installed ServiceGuard and recovered /etc/cmcluster from the backup.

I then tried to run cmcheckconf -v -C cmclconf.ascii -P testclusterconf.ascii

It returned with an error
Warning: Network Interface Lan1 on node mgued3 couldn't talk to itself.
cmcheckconf : Unable to reconcile configuration file ../cmclconf.ascii with discovered configuration information.

Any ideas? Do I need to copy more stuff from the old cluster? Is this kind of upgrade possible?

Robert, I suspect that what was lan0 (or lan1)
under 10.20 is not lan0 under 11.x. I also remember than under 10.20 with earlier newworking software the devices were btlan0,btlan1, ... . If you happened to do a lanscan before the upgrade, match the old hardware paths/device names to the new and I think that will fix you. In any event, you almost certainly have a lan device mismatch between old and new. Also, you should be aware
that disk device pathnames may have changed
between old and now so that what was /dev/dsk/c1t0d0 may now be /dev/dsk/c2t0d0.
--- Hope this helps, Clay

What steps have you performed to upgrade this Dclass server? An upgrade over the existing OS? or a cold install?
If the second, what you have done is unsupported.

Hi Robert,
If you have done a cold install, it is unsupported ok, but it's the best way.
So, I've made this kind of upgrades some times, and they went ok.
Check if you didn't change your old IP address, if your node names are the same, and check the file /etc/cmcluster/cmclconf.ascii and see if it all seems to be correct.

afterwards, perform a cmcquerycl.

good luck.

This message means that SG was not able to communicate with this lan interface in a similar way, linkloop does (SG uses a special DLPI encapsulation for the test). You should therefore do the following test:

# linkloop -i <PPA> <MAC address="">

You can get both PPA and MAC address for this interface from the output of lanscan.

If linkloop fails, you can be sure that this is not a SG problem, but most likely caused by hardware (cabling, switch/hub, lan interface etc).

Carsten</MAC></PPA>
