HPWS components - Apache, Tomcat, PHP, etc are just 32-bit applications because there really is no need for these apps to be 64bit (LP64) exes.

Have you asked precisely why they really need 64-bit versions to start with?

I know that I saw some documentation on this. Of course, I can't seem to find it now. Must not be using the right search words. But, we are wanting to use the HPWS with php and mysql with the 64-bit version.

The documentation that I do have says "The MySQL extension for PHP is provided as an external library on HP-UX 11i and HP-UX 11iv2 32 bit versions.".

What I am trying to find is some documentation that talked specifically about this fact. I apparently didn't bookmark it, but I would like to see if there is a way to get the 64 bit version to work.

Does anyone know the specifics on why this isn't included on the 64 bit version of the HPWS or remember the documentation that talks about it?

Any help would be appreciated. Thx!

I believe that part of the web suite is a 32 bit product that runs just fine in 64 bit mode. I believe the Mysql extension for php is just such an example.

The suite will run fine on 64 bit OS and those parts ported will take full advantage of the Os.

SEP

I believe this to be correct as well and I think that it would be hard to tell from a performance point of view that you where not running it in 64 bit.

It is the application group that feels that it is a step backwards to run in a 32 bit mode. So to make everyone happy, I am trying to find out what I can.

Why do you suppose that it isn't turned on in the 64-bit version to begin with? Will there ever be a 64-bit version of HPWS that has this option turned on?

I understand the comments, but I really like to find the information that I ran across that described some detail on this subject. I can't remember now if it was on the online documentation with the HPWS installation or on the HP website itself.

Hey, we all like keeping up with the latest and greatest. I can have understand the desire to have this in 64-bit. I'm just trying to find the documentation that explained why it isn't in the 64-bit version. This most likely be enough detail for them. It really sounded like it just wasn't compiled with this option on during the 64-bit build. But I don't remember.

Your asking me why... Because, there are more of them than there is of me! Does that explain it. ;)

See:

/opt/hpws/hp_docs

on your server where you have HPWS installed (recent releases of HP-UX 11i will always have HPWS...)
