You will also have to recreate all your mirror devices within the vg00 group as the make_recovery does not save that information from the expierence that I have had with it (it has saved me a couple of times after failed upgrades).

I have had an internal disk failure on the vg00 area. I have made a make_recovery tape, the disk has been replaced physically, do I need to reinstall the Operating System or will the make_recovery tape do all this.

Not sure exactly what the make_recovery tape will do.

Thanks

Debbie

The tape will reinstall the OS. You need to boot from the tape you created with make_tape_recovery. ie. when the system is coming up, interrupt the startup and boot from tape rather than the default boot path.
It will automagically install the OS and restore your vg00.

Your make_tape_recovery contains enough information to do a "bare metal" restore; no OS is needed. That's the beauty of IgniteUX. Now, go give yourself at least 3 dope slaps because you shouldn't have to do this at all. Always mirror your boot disks and assuming these are hot-plug disks , you wouldn't even have to shutdown to replace the disk.

We did mirror the disk but somehow the lif area has become corrupted so I cant reboot the system, engineer confirmed this. Hence the use of the ignite tape.

You should still be able to boot from the tape.

Put the tape in the drive and reboot the system. Interrupt the boot. Type:

sea

The system will search for bootable devices. Identify your tape drive. Type:

bo <TAPE device="" identity="">

The tape will rebuild your system.

Mark Syder (like the drink but spelt different)</TAPE>

Debbie:

You will need to reboot the server (eg. at the console type Ctrl+b and RS to reset the server) with the tape you created loaded in the tape drive.

When the system prompts you to autoboot from primary

Autoboot from primary boot path enabled.
To override, press any key within 10 seconds

press enter to override.
Boot from primary boot path (Y or N)?> N
Boot from alternate boot path (Y or N)?> N

>search

This should report all the bootable devices. You should find out the path for the tape drieve and then do:
> boot P5
Interact with IPL?> n
then go get a couple of cups of coffee.
Good luck.

Kofi

I think Kofi should have said:

boot (for example) P5

As it stands, his advice implies that you type P5 regardless of the identity of the tape drive. Incidentally, you don't need to type search and boot in full: sea and bo will suffice (as per my earlier answer).

Mark
