Hello ,
can some one tell the difference between the use of on line jfs and veritas volume manager to mirror the root disk. And in cost wise ,Is on line jfs license costs more? . I have heared that from higher version say HP11i -V2 , Veritas is bundled with OS and installation of additional patches will be enough to make veritas available, Is that true.If so do i need to purchase veritas license seperately or not required. Please Advice.

Hi:

First, OnlineJFS has nothing to do with mirroring. LVM mirroring is done at the LVM logical volume level and requires the license (purchase) of MIRRORDISK/UX.

VxVM (Veritas Volume Manager) implements its own mirroring strategy but you have to have something more than its base version:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5187-1373/ch01s06.html#d0e640

Regards!

...JRF...

As of 11.23 you get the base VxVm. You can mirror the root disk with the base.

If you want to mirror anything else other than root, you need the full VxVm.

-phil
