A question from the HP labs. HP is currently working on designing it's next revision of the Instant Capacity software and needs your input!

Today the Instant Capacity commands require an additonal option in order to authorize the use of temporary capacity. Is this desirable?

So today if the desired action is to activate 2 CPUs the command would be...
icod_modify -a2

If you would like to authorize the use temporary capacity you would need an additional option and the command would become...
icod_modify -a2 -t

Note: Temporary capacity is required to activate CPUs anytime the number of desired active CPUs exceeds the number of purchased CPUs.

The concern is that even if you have temporary capacity available the first command would fail. So do you like the idea of having the additional option or would you prefer to have the components requested become active in the first case and just utilize temporary capacity if necessary?

I personally prefer seperate option. Easy to remember and real sysadmins remember it.

I believe a separate option is desirable - we have seen instances where vpars are being "rearranged" and a miscount activates temporary capacity unintentionally.
