Well now, that's a different story. If the tape is physically stuck, then no unix command will help much. What type of tape drive is it?

If the drive has a power switch, you can try turning the drive off and then back on and see if that forces it to eject.

Some of our DDS drives are in enclosures where the whole drive slides in and the drive does not have a power switch. In the past we have pulled the drive from the enclosure enough for it to power down and the pushed it back in.

If none of those work you might have to replace the drive.

Hi

You can do a
mt offl (which will rewind and go offline) and then can be ejected.

Not sure if this is what you where looking for.

Rgds

HGN

Take a look at the mt command. 'offl' is your boy, probably. Man mt for details. When you don't bother to identify the tape drive type, it's difficult to be specific but for most standalone drives 'offl' will do it. If you have OmniBack or Data Protector, you also have access to the uma commmand which will do even more. Man uma for details.

Thank you for your time and for the brief reply.I will try that. The mt offl command was giving "/dev/rmt/0mnb: I/O error" .So you may be correct. The problem is with drive.
Thanks

Thanks for your help. The power off/on on a tape array have fixed the problem. I was wondering that there is no commnd used at the unix level to make recognize the tape array when i powered it on again.

Hi,

In both above scenario, the problem may be with media also and the drive. Have you tried replacing that?

Which drive is this & is the media compatible?

HTH,
Devender
