Hello everyone,

Yet another fbackup question. I'm trying to use fbackup on our a K class server and HP-UX 10.20 but everytime I ran fbackup I got this message:
fbackup(1004): session begins on Thu May 10 08:56:11 2001
fbackup(3038): output file /dev/rmt/c1t5d0BEST is not a valid device file for backup
fbackup(3019): would you like to enter a new output file?

My ioscan show:
tape 16 8/4.5.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE QUANTUM DLT8000
/dev/rmt/c1t5d0BEST /dev/rmt/c1t5d0BESTb /dev/rmt/c1t5d0BESTn /dev/rmt/c1t5d0BESTnb

There is no problem with this drive when I use tar (for backup). I saw one similar question in the forum but since the author did not said what she did that fix the problem and I tried all suggestions I'm at a lost. Thank you in advance for your help.

Thi

I am no expert, but I too recently connected a DLT drive with Autoloader to my system. It saw the tape drive in ioscan and tar & cpio worked too, but fbackup didn't. I had to install a series of Patches w/depenencies. Once I installed them, fbackup worked great. Now if I can only get the autoloader to autoload, but that is a different story.

The list of patches were sent to me via a tech at HP. They did work. Hope this helps.
PHCO_23437
PHCO_23844
PHKL_16751 (install this one first)
PHKL_16957
PHKL_17858
PHKL_20611
PHKL_21595
PHKL_21661
PHKL_22286
PHKL_23419
PHKL_23612
PHNE_22507

Good luck,
Jenifer

The simple device name didn't work for me, although I hoped it would. I know it is a lot of work, but HP said the patches would work. Make sure you have a full backup before you install these. These patches are for a 9000 D-Class, 800 series. If you have a 700 series, the patches are different.

You can check on HP.com under these patch names and it will tell you what patches goes with what series. Good luck.... all your replies are very helpful. I know that I appreciated the help.

Hello everyone,

I am sorry that it took so long to response but I was only able to do the testing as per suggested by all the response. Is it too late to assigned points ??? Anyway, I got the system going - I have to install the patches as per Jennifer's response and afterward - fbackups works just fine. Thank you everyone, and sorry for the delay.

Thi
