Hi all!

Regularly the following message appears in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log (I think it is each time someone opens a CDE session on a X-terminal connected to this server) :

DTSESSION: The auth error message is Authentication failed

Do you know how to inhibit this error message?

NB: In spite of these error messages, CDE sessions are open successfully.

Why this error / message ?

There are various situations when dtsession checks the authoization of the user. Typically, this message is logged in syslog when say a user enters the incorrect password to unlock the display of CDE.
The problem can be reproduced easily when you lock the CDE screen and enter the bad password to unlock it:

How to fix it ?
As you may see, this is NOT a defect. But if you don't
want to have these messages in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log, you can
configure the syslog configuration file, default /etc/syslog.conf.
For example, mail.debug /var/adm/syslog/mail.log
auth.info           /var/adm/syslog/auth.log    ==> this line isadded
*.info;mail.none /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
*.alert /dev/console *.alert root
*.emerg *
<< be="" sure="" that=""> code must be used as the separator >>
To re-read the configuration file for running "syslogd", do
# kill -HUP `cat /var/run/syslog.pid`
For more informaiton about syslog() and syslogd, please refer the man pages.
