HPUX11i spooler and printing to J2591A

I have hpux 11i and it can print to my printec dot matrix printers via a DTC16RX.
I want to convert to IP printing and I have 2 dozen NEW J2591A jetdirect EX printservers I want to use!
I have configured the jetdirect and can print from Windows and I can redirect text files through the HPspooler, BUT, when I send the spooler a report that incluids control codes for the printer the spooler thinks that it has more than 1 job. it shows a 13 charicter print job waiting (the spooler has locked up )
and another 25K print job after the first also waiting.

try to cancel those jobs using "cancel"

enable the printer once again. In needed check the status using lpstat.

Thanks but I did cancil the jobs.
I wanted help to fix the problem the spooler is having with jobs sent to the jetdirect.

Sounds to me you have set up these printers as network printers going through your Windows spooler.

You should try using the HP JetDirect printer installer (product number J4189) on your HP-UX system. You can get it from here: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-001&h_lang=en&h_cc=us&h_product=28674&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_page=hpcom〈=en&cc=us

Based on your already using these printers on a DTC, you should have a valid model script for your printers, so it's just a matter of making sure you have the right one associated with each printer.

I used the jetdirect printer installer, it uses hppi to create the Que's.
I then tried to print and the spooler hung.
I think it was due to the spooler 'using' the printer controll codes rather than passing them to the printer.

Printing to a DTC printer does not use Model scripts, it is a simple serial device.

Just a guess that might help (or it might not)...

What model script did you select when configuring the queue through hppi? Looking through the list of the version installed here, it looks like you probably need either "To Select dumbplot model script for printer" or "To Select dumbplot model script for printer with CR". Being a dot matrix printer, I'm guessing it doesn't recognize PCL, but, if it does and has an emulation mode for an HP printer (I've seen this a on a Brothers laser printer before... you could configure it to emulate a LJ II so could choose that model script from hppi and it worked well), you could try using one of those.

HP JD Printer Installer is pretty tied to HP printers or emulations thereof. You could try setting up the printer as a remote printer with SAM or lpadmin directly instead of as a network printer through hppi. That will keep the server from trying to process the print job and just pass it along to the printer on the JetDirect. If it has the escape codes or whatever the printer needs, that should (theoretically) work.

You should use lp spooler go to SAM,lp spooler,printers and plotters,Actions.Add Network-Based Printer/Plotter,Add Printer/Plotter Connected to HP JetDirect...
1) Spooler Administration (super-user only)
Add printer to local spooler,
If you do not have the model installed select
58) HP LaserJet Printer not given in this list

It must work.
