BDF - SAM percentage reporting differs..

I have to temporarily expand a 2G directory that resides on a mirrored disk. To have enough space to expand this 2G to 8G, I had to break the mirror and expand the 8G over the active disk as well as the disk that was previously mirrored. SAM shows the new 8G space on the logical volume, but bdf only shows the 2G. Is there something else I need to do to show the proper size via bdf? I did this about 3 years ago on another disk and don't remember having to do anything more than what I did here, but maybe I'm forgetting something. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

How did you expand this? Did you use SAM? Or did you run lvextend and forget to do the extendfs?

Pete

Hi Denda:

If 'bdf' doesn't show the larger filesystem size, then the filesystem wasn't extended.

SAM segregates volume group, logical volume and filesystem management just as you would at command-line. Thus, go to the File Systems tab and increase the filesystem size appropriately.

You could also look at the Options -> View Sam Log to see exactly what SAM did.

Regards!

...JRF...

It depends on which area of SAM you were in and, therefore, what you asked it to do. If you were in the Logical Volumes area and chose a logical volume and then chose "Increase size", it may have increased the LV without extending the file system. I would have thought it should do both, but it may not.

I would suggest unmounting the file system and running extendfs against it.

Pete

You know.. I'm about to the point of not using SAM at all. I used to love it, but it seems lately that it is always not working the way it should. I'll check for a patch, maybe this is something that can be fixed. Yeah, I'll have to extend it manually after the users are off it this weekend, since it needs to be unmounted to do that.

Thanks!

Hi Denda:

If you don't have OnlineJFS then yes, you must unmount the filesystem to extend it. This isn't SAM's fault. SAM is just a menu-based front-end to standard commands.

Having OnlineJFS is a must in any production environment.

Regards!

...JRF...

It is purchased - but is included in MC and Enterprise OE.

To check, run:

swlist -l product |grep OnlineJFS

Also, check if it is enabled with:

/usr/sbin/vxlicense -p

Rgds...Geoff
