HP Surestore E Disk Array 12H

Can I change the primary hardware path to the alternate hardware path on the fly via SAM? If so, what are the implications? Also, will the primary path I changed it from become the alternate?

Trying to balance some loads. I have everything on one path.

I dont think you can do it with sam, but you can do it on the command line with pvchange -S. This will swap the primary and alternate over temporarily, next reboot it will revert back! To make it permanent you need to export and reimport the VG in the order (disk) needed.

You cannot do it via SAM . Only way to do it on the fly is to through -s option. And to make it permanent do an vgexport and vgimport .

If you have a primary and an alternate link to a PV, and this shows up using the display commands, then all you need tro do is vgreduce vgname pv_path, where the pv_path is the PV device file. This then leaves you with what was th alternate link now as the primary.
Then vgextend the vg with the pv_path, and this becomes the alternate link.

Verify with the display commands
