Is K-Class Server supported Hotswapable to replace the bootdisk?

Hi All,
Thanks in Advance.
I have problem in Bootdisk and need to replace online and the server is running on alternate boot path?
Is it possible to replace online in K-class Servers?

Please advise?

That depends on whether you boot off the internal disk, or off a disk that is in a external disk system, such as a HASS.

If the broken disk is in a HASS and its been properly mirrored, then go right ahead.

If you want to replace one of the internal disks in the disk cage in the main cabinet, then I don't rate your chances highly, especially if you have other disks in the cage with the boot disk.

If the drives are internal to the K class, will have to power down so the disks are accessible. Will need to pull the cover off and loosen some screws and etc...

Hi,

No, not if it's a disk internal to the K. They are not hot-swappable.
If it's external to the K, then yes you could.

This is exactly why no experienced admin ever used the K's internal drive bays. On my old K-boxes I always used JBOD's for the boot disks.

yes you are right.
but make sure to change the right disk.
the defect one seems to be dev/dsk/c2t5d0 (not the disk you mentioned) as it can't be queried.

use
vgdisplay -v vg00
and
pvdisplay
to make sure.

hi,

I aggre with most points raised so far.

It could be either an interanl or external hass drive.
However the new information you have provided could mean it is in fact and external drive(hass disk)

Henk is correct about you listing the wrong disk device in your last post, the faulty drive you have indicates to be c2t5d0 not c2t6d0.
The disk model also shown St318275LC indicates that this is infact an external disk. This disk has a sca80 type interface and is used in the 18gb hass disks part number A5286A. This is not compatible interanlly with the K class.

Do a fresh ioscan to check the models of disk and verify the correct disk and then look at the external storage boxes you have. The faulty drive should have an amber light displayed.
post the ioscan if doubtful

Thats right and i pasted which is good and it is primary boot path.Just for disk reference i pasted that output.The same server i have one more disk is having problem and the details as given below.
please advise how can i replace the disk with out data intact and is it hot swapable to replace the disks.
