Hi all,
I have a B180L hpux 10.2 server that our process control dept uses. They have everything on vg00.. it runs just one application. The server is getting flakey and they have a brand new spare B180Lthey just got.
My question is what would be the quickest route to rebuild onto the new server? Would taking a make recovery tape on the old box and use it to boot from on the new box be a good way to do this?
Thanks so much for any help

As it's the same model that should work. But you may want to check what is causing the current problems - if it's disc space, a similar server isn't going to help.

Mark Syder (like the drink but spelt different)

Shanda,

yes install ignite/ux if you havent already and then you can do a full backup and restore from the tape. This will be alot quicker than a full fresh install and preserve your network settings aswell.

Andy

Shalom,

You have limited choices with 10.20

make_tape_recovery should work.

You can also build a golden image using make_sys_image which you will see is one of the processes running during make_tape_recovery

make_sys_image run by itself will partially disable networking and user id's.

SEP

If ignite-us is installed u can go for make_tape_recovery, make_sys_image and third one is make_net_recovery. using third option u can save image on the current server and on new server u have to boot using network from ISL. at ISL u have to define IP addresses of ignite server as well as of new server.

Yes,
You can use make_recovery of ignite-UX for creating image of an existing server, which you can use to install on other identical server.

Regards

Shameer

Be careful to avoid duplication of IP address of the old box in the new on the same LAN.
If you have MirrorDisk/UX you'll have to reconfigure it after the restore.

Paolo
