We have an HP-9000 and it is time to replce the system drives. There are 2 mirrored 18GB drives that I plan to replace with 2 - 72GB drives.
Since I have never done this before I am looking for the easist way to do this.
If I understand the process it might not be too hard.
Make an Ignite tape of vg00(it is all there).
backup the whole system(Maybe twice).
Shutdown and remove and replace the system drives.
Restart the system and boot from the Ignite tape and it will rebuild the system drives.
Then I can resize the partitions as needed.

So, is it that easy?
Where can I get some document that shows me the step by step to do this? Since it is the first time is would be better to make sure I have all the steps first.

Can you help?

Marty
Marty,

You got it down perfectly. The ignite proces will allow to resize the lvol's and recreate vg00 to allow for the larger disks.

Dave

There is nothing with the steps you have listed in order to replace your root drives, ignite will allow you to resize your filesystems.

The only document i could find that might help is at this link below:

http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-1236/When_Good_Disks_Go_Bad.pdf

Hi Marty,
You have already listed what you want step by step.

1. Make a Ignite TApe
# make_tape_recovery -ACv -d <TAPE device="" filename="">

2. Shutdown the System.
3. Replace drives
4. Boot with the Ignite Tape
5. Select Tape Drive to boot with from PDC.
6. Boot Interactively with Ignite Tape.
7. Herafter you will be guided by the inetarctive sesison of ignite backup tape.

Hope that helps.
Regards,

</TAPE>

Marty,

Just to make sure - you interact with Ignite before it begins the restore to specify the size of your file systems. It then builds the new file systems and begins the restore much like an initial installation.

And it really is that easy!

Pete
