no firewall to block the connection. i shut the personal firewall off and still no luck. i will investigate putty, but can't figure out why this wouldn't work since it always has.

i have installed Reflection X many times, but on my last install, i keep getting an error..

i am trying to do a "broadcast XDMCP" to see all my unix servers but i errors out with

"your XDMCP connection timed out, make sure your hosts are running XDM programs RX2102"

any ideas on what is going on? I am running HPUX 11.23 v2 on Itanium.
Shalom Chris,

To improve security and decrease the amount of polling and collision issues on networks, the last few years network administrators have taken to dividing networks into smaller virtual lans.

These lans are on different subnets. The broadcast method of finding a server will not work across vlans.

If you use a diffent option and connect directly to the host by hostname or ip address you will connect.

SEP

Ensure that your client computer IP/MASK is correct. Check that you don't have any firewall programs blocking your access, like MS Firewall (SP2) or Symantec/Norton.

Have you tried XDMCP direct?

Yes, i am on a flat 10.x network. I tried direct too, but times out. I will check the firewall from the XP client.

You can use nmap
http://www.insecure.org/nmap/download.html
to check if UDP port 177 is open from PC to servers (and TCP port 6000 back).
I prefer keep reflection active, but use putty
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/download.html
to connect from pc enabling X11 forwading (connection/ssh/tunnel).
So I only need tcp port 22 open through the servers.

True, I suppose based on the additional information, a firewall could be causing the block.

See the firewall admin and get the port openned. Network switches can do this too.

SEP

thank you everyone for your help.

the last response with the troubleshooting XDM connections was the key. Apparently reflection X was grabbing my 192 address from my wireless instead of my 10.x lan address. that was the problem.
