Hi
If u are using 11iV2 Itanium systems than you can use vxfs on /stand if you want to else you can still have HFS as usual.

Thanks

Hi,
I see on later versions of hpux 11i that it is now possible to build the /stand filesystem as a vxfs one instead of /hfs.
Are there any ramifications/changes to the boot process, lvlnboot etc that arise because of this?

regards

Hi,
vxfs is the default file system type for all HP-UX 11i Version 2 file systems for /stand

There is no issue that I know off with the boot process on PA-RISC system.

Louis

Hi,

You can only have a /stand vxfs on hpux 11.23 on an itanium2 CPU.

The boot process is differant because Itanium2 servers have an EFI boot partition

See http://h71028.www7.hp.com/enterprise/cache/80518-0-0-0-121.aspx

Hello,

/stand is vxfs only on 11iV2 Itanium systems.

You can check tha by,

# fstyp /dev/vg00/lvol1
vxfs

Same command in 11.11 will give you,

#fstyp /dev/vg00/lvol1
hfs

-Arun

I hope in 11.23 only they are supporting to have /stand file system in hfs or vxfs. Before that it was having /stand in hfs only.

Some outline informations are here as,

http://docs.hp.com/en/5964-5283/ch02s08.html

Hope some threads are started before on this topic.

--
Muthu

Hi,

Let me give you a detailed view.

/stand in PA-RISC systems running HPUx 11.11 or 11.23 ( 11.23 can be loaded in PA RISC too ) is hfs because ISL utility can not read vxfs and load kernel.

Integrity systems using Itanium / 11.23 do not have ISL but a utility called EFI ( Extensible Firmware Interface) which resides on a FAT32 partition on the boot disk. This utility loads EFI boot loader and EFI boot loader loads secondary loader and then Kernel.

There is no way you can convert /stand of PA-RISC systems to vxfs.

Simply , its not OS version 11.11 or 11.23 but the hardware and Firmware which decide the compatibility .

Hope things are clear now.

thanks
deepak
