Shalom,

I believe these kind of upgrades are a system board replacement.

Technically, it should not be necessary to back anything up.

I however would back up all local volume groups.

System configuration and boot disk should be backed up useing make_tape_recovery or make_net_recovery, depending on installed equipment.

To prepare specifically for your plan.

vgexport the vg01 volume group with all oracle instances down.

Then after the installation use vgimport to bring the volume group into the new system.

Problem is that oracle alters a number of files in the root filesystem, such as /etc/oratab.

I see two easy paths.

1) shut down all oracle instances and use the make_tape_recovery to replicate the whole system. Connect the disks and then restore the whole system. Variation, vgexport vg01 with the database down and make_tape_recovery only the vg00 boot volume
2) The plan outlined above.

SEP

Good.

I need aid in the following exposition:

We have a rp5430 server with the next volume group:

/dev/vg00
/dev/vg01

Volume Name Mounted On File System
-------------- ----------------------
/dev/vg00/lvol1 /stand
/dev/vg00/lvol2 (swapdisk)
/dev/vg00/lvol20 /export
/dev/vg00/lvol3 /
/dev/vg00/lvol4 /tmp
/dev/vg00/lvol5 /home
/dev/vg00/lvol6 /opt
/dev/vg00/lvol7 /usr
/dev/vg00/lvol8 /var
/dev/vg00/lvol9 /oracle
/dev/vg01/lvol10 /oracle/oradata/orabdt10/data01
/dev/vg01/lvol11 /oracle/oradata/orabdt10/data02
/dev/vg01/lvol12 /oracle/oradata/orabdt10/data03
/dev/vg01/lvol13 /oracle/oradata/orabdt10/logonl01
/dev/vg01/lvol14 /oracle/oradata/orabdt10/logonl02
/dev/vg01/lvol15 /oracle/oradata/orabdt10/respaldo
/dev/vg01/lvol16 /opt/sema
/dev/vg01/lvol17 /data/sema
/dev/vg01/lvol18 /oracle/oradata/orabdt10/data04

We like to change the server to rp5470, I make a new installation of operating system in the new disk of new server (vg00)maintaining the old configuration (lv, filesystem, size, etc.). I need to place the disk of vg01 of the old server in the new server to conserve the data that contains these (database) and not to make a recovery.

my question is:

1.- If this posible?

2.- if i restore the files /etc/lvmtab
/etc/ioconfig
/etc/lvmconf (entire)
/stand/ioconfig
/dev/vg00 (entire)
/dev/vg01 (entire)

and reboot the server, the system would take the changes and it would conserve the configuration of vg01 and the data, or I need to make some other thing?.

Thanks

Hi boys,

Steven, thanks for your answer, now, when you talk about to system board replacement, I suppose that you talk about to make upgrade using the key certificate provided by SIDO but I don't have this.

DCE, in the steps that you indicate, when I create vg01 I do not destroy the data of disks? or your you talk about to place new disks in the server to reconstruct the Vg and to recover the data? I wanted to conserve the same data of disks, that is, to recreate the Vg but with the same data.

Let us suppose that the server didn't startup more and I must form a new server but I don't have backup and i wanted to use the disks of the old server(with its data) to who didn't happen anything to them.

Thanks

No, you do not destroy your data. the vgexport command removes the disks from the system, but saves the info on the disk. The vgimport command then "discovers" the data. I have successfully moved data from one system to another with this method.

A variation of it is used in serviceguard as well, if I am not mistaken.

But, as always, make sure you have a clean, good, backup - just in case.

Another trick you can do - take a make tape recovery of vg00 of the old system. Then create the new system from the tape, making sure you go into the advanced options, so you can modify lv sizes as necessary.

This will restore all of your vg00 data (users, paswords, hosts, etc), as well as your oraclee install. The do your vgimport, and you are operational. One gottcha though - Ignite does not remirror, so you would have to manuaaly remirror
