Converting from Openspool to Spooler

Hi,

We are currently running a pretty old app on HPUX 10.20. We also have Openspool providing the printers for the application. When a user wants to print they have a printer lists called up from a linked file called PPERMIT based on their location. Currently, if you look at the file is appears something like this

PRINTERNAME:w:/usr/bin/np: -qprintername:-s:-oout 2:

But, we are trying to migrate to a newer system using lp. Is there a document that indicates what commands in Openspool (np) correspond to lp commands?

Any help would be appreciated.

This is how we print (from a script which is called by SAP):

lp -d$P -n$C -p3 -onb $Fileout

# -d -n -p -o

man lp for more info

Shalom Bill,

If you do anything with fonts, forms pcl and such, you'll need a third party print spooler to totally duplicate openspool functionality.

I worked in a shop that used openspool for years. It conerted to easy spooler, http://www.easyspooler.com

I won't endorse the product, it's parent was bought out a few years back and its support staff was gutted.

Its actually script based and does a pretty good job replacing openspool.
