Reboot into single user mode, using "hpux -is" at the "10 second prompt", and reset your root password there.

Pete

Hi,

Are you having another section of the same server? if yes, then do su once again. This will go.

Else do you have any root equivalent account, use it to unlock,

if none of the above, all you have to do is just boot in single user mode and reset/re-enable the root account.

Chan

If the account is disabled because of too many failed login attempts, you can still login to it from the console to unlock it.

You can try logging in from the console - that should work.

If it does not, then you will have to boot into single user mode to change the password.

HTH

Dave

a user account on a trusted system is disabled after 3 unsuccessful login attempts. If you forget or mistype the root password and exceed the limit on login tries, the system disables the account and you cannot log in on LAN or from any terminal except the system console.

If you still have a login session open for the root user, you can re-enable the
account in SAM:
Accounts for Users and Groups -> Users -> Actions -> Reactivate

Or on the command line:
# /usr/lbin/getprpw -m lockout,culogin root
lockout=0001000,culogin=3
# /usr/lbin/modprpw -k root

If no one is logged in as root, the account is still allowed to login at the system console. This assumes that the console is at a secure location and only an authorized user has access to it. To login as root:

Console Login: root
Password:
Account is disabled but console login is allowed.

The successful console login resets the lock and allows the root user to login via the network now. The correct password still has to be provided.
If the system was recently converted to a trusted system, login with only the first 8 characters of the root password.
