I have stm installed on my machine but I have never used it. I am having problems with a tape drive and I see that I have two tools installed, one is diag_dds and the other is scsi_dds. How do I use them? When I start mstm it just allows me to view information about a device, it does not give me any other options.

Have you tried the stm (or xstm) tools? If any problems exist these tools should show them.

Hi John,

There is another tool provided by HP called "EMS".
it is provided free and can be found I think
on the first application CD. You just install it
using 'swinstall'. Once installed try and use your
tape drive. It if fails "EMS" will e-mail 'root'
and describe some diagnostic messages. This will
describe to yourself and HP the symptoms.
if the drive is an internal DDS drive it most
likely needs replacing if it is used very
frequently.

HTH
Michael
