Issue while installing patch fileset on HP-PA machine

I am trying to install a patch fileset named PHSS_32511 on my HP PA machine. It throws some errors, says "the patch fileset may only be installed upon a previously installed base fileset.Since there is no fileset on the target or selected from the source which matches this specification, the fileset will be ignored." (not the exact error words it says but something on the same lines)

Hello,

PHSS_32511 is specifically for aCC (HP's C++ Compiler). Do you have aCC installed on your server ? You can find out by,

# whereis acc

If you dont have aCC installed, you can't install PHSS_32511.

Hi,
this may be a silly question, but do you have the aC++ compiler installed.
The message indictaes that a pre-required software level is missing. This is normally a pre-required patch or base software.
Can you please provide output from:
swlist

not only does acc need to be installed but this patch applies to version
Prod HP aC++ C.03.62

if the version is not installed the patch does not apply.

This information is found in the patch text file.

its not only PHSS_32511 but also PHSS_32512,PHSS_32513 patches that fail for the same reason. I am working on installation of Oracle on the machine. are they all for the same reason?

as I first thought. I can't see any aC++ compiler in your list. You can not install the patch without first having the software installed.

Hi,
the evaluation copy is only valid for 30 days, I believe.

An alternative, depending on what you plan to compile is a freeware product called gcc.

This software is available at:
http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Gnu/gcc-4.1.0/

This product however may not be suitable for some oracle products like forms compiles!

You download and install the aCC evaluation version and should then be able to install your patches.

However, if you do not have the aCC compiler, why do you need to install the patches??
